Today was bit crazy. In math, we worked on learning to multiply 2-digit by 2-digit numbers, using our heads and not a calculator. It went smoothly for most of the students. We worked on our silhouette art projects and did some silent reading. Just before lunch, the chaos started. 10 of my students were unfortunately having to switch to another class. I know it is only early in the year, but it was sad to see them have to move. 4 other students are joining our class. So people were coming and going. At the same time, the Color House leaders were preparing for the afternoon playday. Hopefully on Monday, it will be back to normal and we can start learning again. I just want to inform all of the parents who read this information on a daily basis, that I will be unable to post anything for the next little while. I will let you know, via
the kids, when I am able to resume my daily resumés. Should you have any questions or concerns, please call me during school hours at 613-354-2121 (TPCS) or send me a note in your son or daughter's agenda. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

Is it June or September, because it is way too hot for me ! Today in math, we did a couple of problems of the day. We also did some more work on Place Value. In French, we did a writing piece based on a photo that I presented to the class. We are focusing on grammar, spelling and correct sentence structure. We worked on our art. I read aloud to the class after we did some silent reading. We ended off the day with Soccer baseball but it was very hot and there were a lot of wasps. Tomorrow afternoon is the Color House activities.

Today in Art, we continued working on our silhouettes. They are coming along nicely, but they are time-consuming. In math, we did a couple of problems of the day which required a bit of thinking. We then continued to look at place value. In French, we corrected the work on capital letters that we did yesterday. After lunch, we went to the library for book exchange and did some silent reading. We ended off the day with outdoor phys-ed. Unfortunately, we have to re-organized most of the classes in the school due to large numbers in each class. On one hand, we are lucky that we have been allocated 2 additional teachers, but on the other hand it means that many students will have to change classes. The students who will be affected have been given letters explaining who is moving where. This is an unfortunate situation, but a necessary one.
Careful thought went into all the changes that need to occur.

Today in math, we started looking at Place Value. It is mostly a review of what should already have been covered in previous grades, except that Grade 7 goes to 1 000 000 and Grade 6 goes to 100 000. In French, we worked on capital letters, where and why we use them. Everyone can tell me where to use them but many forget to actually apply this knowledge to their own personal writing. After lunch, we did silent reading and then some Drama activities. We finished off the day by playing a game of soccer baseball.

In Art today, we started working on our silhouettes. Everyone is filling in his or her silhouette with pictures of things that they enjoy. In math, we did an activity using the number 4. It seemed complicated at first but once we got going it wasn't so bad. Many of the students did very well. In French, we finished off oral sharing with the students who did not get a turn last week. I started reading a book out loud to the class. It is about a new teacher who is a bit strange. After lunch, we did some silent reading and some Drama activities. Then we headed outside for a game of Capture the Flag.

Week 1 is over and we all survived. It was a successful week. I think everyone learned a little something or at least remembered things that they had been taught before. We are all becoming familiar with the class routines and expectations. In math today, we did Day 4 review activities which focused on measurement. In French, most people finished up the 2 writing pieces. We did some silent reading and oral French sharing. The class finished off the day doing Art with Mme Little. Please remember to do the reading and math logs. They are due on Monday morning. Thanks to everyone who donated the $3 for the agenda. Grade 7 parents, please sign and return the green and yellow forms for the Health unit.

Today, we worked on Day 3 math activities. They were focused on geometry. In French, we discussed how to be respectful. We wrote out several ways to be respectful to our parents, our friends and our teachers. In French, we did some oral French sharing. Each students gets a chance to speak in French and share what they have been up to during the summer or on the weekend. We ended up the day with a game of soccer baseball, Grade 6 vs Grade 7. The 6s ruled!!

Still hot and sticky, but we are getting used to it. Today we started 2 art projects to add a little color to the classroom. In math, we worked on Day 2 review questions. Things went a little smoother today. In French, we started working on a writing piece based on a photo that i showed on the board. I am still encouraging the students to speak French at all times. We need to get in the habit now. We had an assembly to introduce the Magazine Sales campaign. Students should get the papers to bring home tomorrow. We ended off the day with a game of Soccerbaseball. Thanks to everyone who sent in the 3$ for the agenda. Reading and Math logs are due on Monday morning.

It was a hot one but we all survived. The students met their new English teacher, Ms. Wynn. She will be teaching the English and Science. In math, we worked on some mental math questions. Then we worked in groups on some math review questions. In French, we corrected the errors in a paragraph that I had written. The students were remarkably good at finding all my mistakes. We ended off the day with some phys-ed. It was just too hot to stay in the classroom any longer. I sent home a newsletter today. Please read it carefully. The students also have some reading and math homework to complete for Monday. Agendas were handed out today. If possible, the school would appreciate a $3 donation toward the cost of the agendas. Please remind your son or daughter that he or she needs to have indoor shoes for the classroom. Thanks
Reminder: Classes begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. I am looking forward to the new school year. J'espère que tout le monde a parlé un peu de français cet été.
